Float on light, soft snow in a secluded valley, far from the crowds...
Les Deux Alpes
There are plenty of places to head in Les Deux Alpes on a powder day, alongside the pistes or out into the wilds of the Ecrins National Park towards Saint Christophe-en-Oisans.
The resort has a large selection of advanced terrain and off-piste skiing for those who like to venture off the groomed slopes and marked pistes. A few of the favourites are:
- Grand Couloir Chutes
- Clot de Chalance
- La Dome Glacier
- Pic du Diable
- La Fee
- St Christophe
Alpe d’Huez has some fantastic terrain as well, with the hidden tracks from Les Grandes Rousses and the ‘itineraire’ routes from Pic Blanc. The best place to find off-piste skiing in Alpe d’Huez is from the top of the Pic Blanc Glacier. From here you will find plenty of couloirs to go down that all end up on the Sarenne path.
And then there is the most outstanding off piste skiing of all that is the mythic La Grave/La Meije. This extensive mountain terrain is the reserve of guided groups and those confident enough to navigate wilderness skiing by themselves. There really is no other place like it.
La Grave enjoys cult status among experts. It has just one serious lift serving a high, wild and almost entirely off-piste mountainside. The result: an exciting, usually crowd-free area.
For the intrepid explorers who love being out in the mountain wilderness, the Oisans valleys offer a multitude of Ski Touring options from easy to extreme.
