Cross Country Skiing

Get away from the hustle and bustle and explore the area surrounding the resorts

Cross-country skiing, also known as Nordic skiing, can be a fantastic way to see the area surrounding the ski resorts. Cross-country trails can take you far away from the hustle and bustle of the main ski pistes and lift lines, giving you a different perspective on the mountains. It’s also fantastic for your fitness!

There are plenty of places to enjoy the majestic scenery of the Oisans area. You have the main ski resorts in Les Deux Alpes, and Alpe d’Huez, as well as Col d’Ornon and Serre Chevalier over the Lautaret pass in the next valley.

Cross Country @ Les Deux Alpes

Head off for the tranquil cross country trails that criss-cross the Oisans region. The best cross country skiing in the area is at Col d’Ornon (30 minutes drive), or at the picturesque village of Villar d’Arene (40 minutes drive). Situated on the edge of the national park, with a variety of well maintained tracks and views to die for. There is a 3km, 7km and 10km loop to explore & it only costs €7 or €8 for a day ticket. Equipment hire and instruction are available in both villages.

Cross Country @ Alpe d’Huez

There really is no better way to really enjoy all that Alpe d’Huez has to offer than getting out on the wonderful cross country skiing trails.

There are some 50km of XC ski trails in the resort. The trails are loops (“boucles” in French) so you end up back where you started. The loops are graded like ski runs as well, blues are the easiest and reds are a bit harder. All the loops and trails are clearly marked and signposted and are really easy to follow.
