Chalet Khumbu

Chalet Khumbu

As you enter Chalet Khumbu you will be struck by its light and spaciousness. The main room – la piece de resistance – is both stunning and beautiful with open windows and views across the surrounding mountains: the steep forested mountains rising to pic de Venosc, the striking ridge of Les Deux Alpes culminating in the ‘Indian’s Head’ piercing the sky, and the reach of the Veneon valley leading to the distant rise of the Belledonne range often times touched by pink in the light of the setting sun. In the winter months, when the day has tired of sliding on snow, you can gather round the stone chimney and enjoy the warmth of an open fire in the comfort of sofas and chairs. And should the mood take you, whether there are musicians amongst you or not, there is a piano and guitar with jambo drums and a creative selection of percussion instruments.

The conviviality of the sitting room is matched by the spaciousness of the fully equipped, professional kitchen. This is where you will be prepared delicious meals that are varied, well balanced and always enjoyable. Should you be choosing the self-catered option, there is room enough here for anyone to enjoy the art of cooking, to extend their creative muscle and surprise their companions with delicious offerings; or for many of your party to join in, lending joy and lightness to the preparation of food for everyone.

Summer Dining TerraceThe spaciousness of Chalet Khumbu is continued as you step out onto the terrace. In the summer months this is a veritable suntrap where you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening drinks watching the changing hues of the day across the mountains. For mid-day lunch or long summer evenings the professional barbecue is an ideal way to continue enjoying the fresh mountain air. When the terrace becomes too hot you can descend into the gardens with its green lawns, colourful flowerbeds, mature lime trees and the occasional fruits. Here you will find space enough for your own quiet corner for reading or a reflective snooze; for games with your companions such as badminton, boule or table tennis; or simply to be awed by the majesty and beauty of the surrounding scenery.

Upstairs there are six bedrooms, each with their own character and appeal. Terrine overlooks the gardens with its own balcony and bathroom. Watusi looks out onto the horse chestnut tree of the terrace and boasts the largest bed in the house. Abondance, with its double aspect, is light and airy with three single rooms. Salers is ideal for two individuals with its own shower. Villarde is the only room to look down the open valley to the far away Belledonne. And Belledonne is set a little apart with its double room, ideal for a small family.

Whichever side of the house you sleep you will waken to the distant sound of running waters the music of singing birds, bringing you to the day refreshed and relaxed, charmed by the gentle stillness and quiet of Lauvitel Lodge.

Be it winter or summer, there is ample parking and a spacious garage for all your sporting equipment, be it skis and snow boards or road and mountain cycles.
